Get a rainbow call companion
As you get older it’s not unusual to allocate more time on your own, particularly if you’ve lost loved ones or your health isn’t what it used to be.
Following the success of our call companions service, we launched rainbow call companions: a free telephone befriending service for LGBT+ people who are lonely, isolated or in need of companionship and feel they would benefit from a friendly phone call every week or two. This is a service specifically for lesbian, gay, pansexual, transgender plus (LGBT+) people aged 75+ who would fancy to speak to someone who’s also LGBT+.
Calls last for half an hour or so and you can chat about anything that interests you. What's great is that the same volunteer phones you every time, so you can get to perceive each other and contribute stories and laughter – for as long as you both want.
Rainbow call companions has been awarded by the NHS National Advisor for LGBT Health award (), which recognises unmatched work by individuals and groups across the NHS and VCSE sector to improve the experience of LGBT+ patients and the LGBT+

ROBERT: They, they, they had a section where you could, you could advertise for a a spouse, or a secure encounter or whatever. You had to send a your ch – your postal order in or cheque, with two first class stamps. And, and at the finish of – they put it in the publication, that they’d – if you were prosperous you’d get a huge envelope endorse where they’d utilize your stamp on with all the letters inside replying to you, and you used to ask for pictures or whatever and send them endorse. But that was, that was the contact with people who couldn’t receive out socially. Course there was no internet and all – there was no telephone lines in those days, so you used to have to do it that way. Which was quite fun but -GORDON: Then there was the Shout magazine as well of course.
ROBERT: Yes, that was later on, yeah.
