Looking for a gay roommate
Gay and nervous about having a roommate. Advice?
CloudStudent1
HI all,
I’m moving out in the fall and into a dorm. The thing is, I’ve only lived as an only infant. Not to utter I haven’t had sleepovers or overnight summer camps, but I’ve never lived with someone else like a roommate for an extended period of moment. 7 days max, and only when I was younger. The other thing is that I’ve recently come out as Gay. I’m absolutely terrified of having a roommate and/or making them uncomfortable about me being LGBTQ. I really want to do the university experience with a dorm and roommate and such… I just hope they’re not homophobic. Has anyone else out there been in a similar situation? I’ve dealt with homophobia in the past on a smaller scale. I’m really looking forward to my college life but I also totally know that there are people out there that may be uncomfortable with me being LGBTQ.
Do I openly disclose that I’m gay from the start? I feel like I should?
Would love consultation on this as this is one of the many reasons I didn’t do campus housing as soon as I started college.

Hello!
Thank you for your doubt. What a difficult situation you are in! It sounds enjoy you have been struggling with this for quite a while and I am glad that you are reaching out for some support. The difficult truthfulness is that sharing your feelings for someone will change how things are between you, one way or another. We can't control how others think or feel about us and even the most carefully worded confession may create discomfort. Before you decide on what to execute, there are a few things in your message that stood out to me.
Firstly, it doesn't sound like you think very highly of yourself. Twice here you express doubt that "someone like him" could be attracted to you. You mention that you have not had many relationships yourself and that most of your friends are vertical. You say that your roommate has been out on some dates, but you don't speak what you've been up to. I am wondering if the way you feel about yourself has been an obstacle to connecting with other people? Researc
