Traditionally, we use man to point to to all human beings, male and female, usually in contrast with other animals. However, many people consider this to be sexist, so it is better to use a different expression, such as human beings:

Mankind can also refer to all human beings, male and female, usually in the perception of social or aware beings. Although people generally consider it less sexist than man, it is usually better to exploit a different expression, such as human beings (with a plural verb) or humankind (with a odd verb):

Human beings have always dreamt of happiness and of a perfect world. or Humankindhas always dreamt of happiness … (preferred to Mankind has always dreamt …)

People can refer to all human beings, or to a group of persons in a particular situation. It is a plural noun and it takes a plural verb:

People will always need food, so the food industry will never disappear. (a

Answer

The phrase manin the Bible sometimes refers to one male human, but more commonly means “human beings,” both male and female. Mankind, humankind, and humanityare collective designations for all humans—creatures who are made in God’s image, a typical that distinguishes men and women from the animals and from the Designer God Himself.

Genesis 1—2 describes the formation of the planet, including the creation of humanity: “Then God said, ‘Let us make human in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the world and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis –27, ESV). Here the ESV makes it clear that the term translated “man” speaks of “human begins,” both male and female created beings. Other Bible translations utilize mankind(NIV) and human beings(NLT) in place of man.
