Gay metal artists
Today, the LGBTQ+ community can look to several lgbtq+ musicians for inspiration, but that wasn’t always the case. Several pioneering openly gay singers paved the way from a second when sexual orientation wasn’t a topic for common discussion.
Indeed, these famous male lover musicians faced tremendous backlash and damage to their careers because of their honesty and openness.
As we explore queer performance art, we pay homage to those who came before us. In this piece, we’ll list some of the most influential names in the queer art movement and their impact on our past and present.
Being an Openly Homosexual Musician
Undoubtedly, the entertainment industry has come a prolonged way in accepting and representing LGBTQ+ individuals. However, it wasn't always this way, especially for musicians.
Coming out as a male lover musician in the 20th century was no miniature feat. It required extreme courage and determination, especially when the music industry was predominantly hetero-normative.
Sexuality was not only a taboo topic for public discussion but could also finding in alienation from fans and even cau
Homophobia, Hate, And New Heroes: The Difficult History of Queer Metal
Early in the writing of this article, I stumbled across a question on a RateMyMusic message board. Any LGBTQI metal bands? it read.
Merely two responses down, someone had provided a tidy encapsulation of an attitude that has haunted the genre on and off over the years. If you dont want assertive machismo demons and shit, maybe metal isnt for you? it read.

Asked by host Jamey Jasta why he thinks there haven't been more musicians coming out as male lover in the past two decades, Alex said: "I consider there's sort of a silent accord. It's like a 'don't ask, don't tell' thing," referencing the repealed Combined States policy on military service whereby gay Americans were permitted to work in the military as long as they remained closeted. "I think people are cool with it — even the most conservative metal fans. And there are conservative metal fans. I hear from them sometimes. But they have a seat at the table too. And I
