Lord of the Rings but queer and dumb: Kendra Wells on Real Hero Sh*t
In August, Iron Circus Comics hit up Kickstarter to fund their awesome comics anthology The Woman and the Woods and Other North American Stories. Now, theyre returning to the platform with the fantasy graphic novel Real Hero Shit.
Launched on Monday, cartoonist Kendra Wells tells the story of a misfit gang of adventurers: a demonic playboy prince, a stoic half-elf, a short-fused mage, and a merciful cleric. Together, they set out to protect the innocent, battle injustice, and show off how cool they look. Its a fun, well-drawn queer romp thatll make you laugh. (The campaign had already surpassed its purpose of $15, by mid-day Monday.)
Wells sat down with AIPT to discuss the project, their roots in D&D and RPGs, and how to approach specific types of jokes, among other topics.
AIPT: First and foremost, how drawn-out have you been into D&D and RPGs?
Kendra Wells: I’ve loved RPGs since I was a little kid, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was one of the first console games

Part III
At my home in New York, I initiate out that some members of my Jesuit collective were uncomfortable with me living there while I ministered to critically ill H.I.V./AIDS patients. They were afraid I’d bring AIDS into the house through my daily contact with the dying. People did not know for sure how the disease was transmitted and so I began to look for another community.
Somehow, I was invited to St. Ignatius Retreat House on Drawn-out Island, in Manhasset. I had a meeting with the Jesuit superior there, and he invited me to come live at the magical Inisfada, a Tudor-revival mansion that once belonged to an American-born papal duke and his wife before they willed it to the Jesuits in the late s. (The house was torn down in )
The night I moved in, I saw a pretty halo around the lunar. In Catholic symbolism, Mary is the moon, the reflected light of the
Story Time: Neal n Unk by Lord Iron
Lord Irons got a vintage Handjobs tale with all the hallmarks of the stories we love here: exploration, joy, connection, and consent.
While lots of the stories in classic Handjobs issues go unattributed or are credited to single first entitle authors who are never heard from again, a handful of illustrators also authored the many stories that accompany their boner-inducing art. Lord Iron is one of those.
A more prolific contributor to the magazine over the years than many, Lord Iron didnt complete up receiving the name recognition of illustrators like Bruno B, and Josman. But his labor is still quite exceptional and he remains one of my particular favorite artists.
Iron draws gorgeous men. And because hes also a storyteller, he makes his men connect his worlds, and makes their passion match their life. Josman is a fantastic illustrator and cartoonist, but his bodies and faces tend to lack real distinction. Instead, they are often adhere the muscular superhero V-shape, with square jaws and typical Chelsea Lad aesthetics.
